We’ve created beautiful staircases for homes, custom artwork for businesses, and art that is good enough to eat. We can now say that we’ve recreated the wheel, literally. Recently a local customer in Burlington asked us to restore a waterwheel on their private property.
A Local Landmark. The original metal wheel was in need of an update, but the owners wanted to keep it a traditional wooden appearance. The local waterwheel was a landmark of sorts. Rumor has it, once it was removed from the property, and neighbors missed it so much a fundraiser was discussed to bring it back.
Restoration. We began by working with a local machine shop in the area to carefully remove the old shaft without damaging the wheel itself. After a lot of TLC, careful planning and execution, a new drive shaft was added. We then sandblasted the original metal wheel and created a custom faux wood grain finish which was carefully painted on. Once completed, the new wheel was added back to its home, where locals can ride by and see it today back in action. Metal or wood? We’ll let you decide!
At Beechwood Metalworks we specialize in thinking outside of the box and bringing your ideas to life, or in this case, recreating the wheel. Call us today with any of your custom metalworks needs, design ideas or restoration projects!
