There are college sports fans – and then there are college sports fanatics. Our recent project led us to the latter of the two, with the creation of a beautiful Duke Blue custom outdoor steel staircase. This residential home in North Carolina is owned by a huge Duke Blue Devils fan and completes an addition to the custom interior Duke blue staircase that we created in this home back in 2009. Since this home is focused on industrial design, we customized both of these pieces to accentuate the architectural component and create an organic element both inside and out.
The Duke blue staircase leads up to a custom deck perfect for entertaining during those nail biting college football games. You may notice the unique spiral and curve of the staircase. Like many of our works, there was inspiration behind this, the Golden Mean. The Golden Mean is the mean between two extremes –a perfect use for these stairs leading up to this high and lofty deck. This curve is found throughout nature, including what may be familiar to many, a Nautilus shell.
